Mobile App Developer

Metadata Specialist/Web Developer – Part-time

Project Summary:

Assist the Web Development Office of the Free Library of Philadelphia to design and implement a web-based application to deliver Encoded Archival Description (EAD)-based finding aids for special collections on the Free Library of Philadelphia website. The finding aid solution will use XML, Document Type Definitions (DTD), and appropriate tools to integrate with the Library’s existing digital collections database maintained in SQL Server.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop a solution to support Archival Specialists, Project Interns and Free Library catalogers in the creation of hierarchical finding aids for Library collections of primary archival materials that have not been cataloged or described previously.
Create data entry tools that will enable Project staff to describe special library collections using EAD.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

The position is for approximately 28 hours per week for about 17 weeks.
It is a Grant-funded position which begins when the position is filled.
Work to be performed in the Web Development Department at the Free Library of Philadelphia.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Solid knowledge of XML and DTDs, specific experience with using EAD a plus
· Experience with ColdFusion
· Experience with SQL Server Database development
· Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) experience
· Expert with HTML and JavaScript
· Project management skills, knowledge of development methodology, documentation and/or systems analysis skills.
· A solid understanding of interactive/dynamic websites.
· Familiarity with website design, conventions, web-based information and content issues
· Good writing skills.
· Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
· Knowledge of library terms, environments and OPACs an advantage.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

BA/BS or better in Information Science, Computer Sciences or a related field and two to three years of experience with a range of web development programming and development. Or two to three years of direct experience developing ColdFusion applications and working with XML.

SALARY: $50 per hour

We have an immediate need for a part-time Flex developer for on-site work at our West Chester, PA office. Position may lead to full-time employment. The ideal candidate will have:

- Solid experience developing projects using Actionscript 3.0 and Adobe Flex;

- A thorough understanding of Adobe Flash Platform APIs (Flex, Flash, etc.);

-Experience integrating Flash with external data sources, such as XML, MSSQL, MySQL and SOAP based Web Services;
